Burgers & Brew

During my three-week sojourn to my hometown of Davis in early September, I took some time to explore. I left home eleven years ago, and while many of my old haunts still exist, I discovered several new and exciting places around town.

One such spot is a trendy burger joint called Burgers & Brew. A converted house with an expansive outdoor patio, Burgers & Brew serves a variety of classic American fare. As the name states, they offer many tasty burgers and beers on tap, as well as sandwiches, salads, soups, fries, and desserts.

We ordered a pitcher of Hoegaarden to share and each decided to try one of their burgers. I went for the Spicy Avocado Cheeseburger, substituting the Niman Ranch beef patty for their veggie patty. I’ve always been a huge fan of topping veggie burgers with avocado, so I expected this would be a tasty switch and I was not disappointed. To get even healthier, I substituted my side of fries for sweet potato fries.

Eric decided on the mushroom and onion cheeseburger with a side of curly fries. It looked great, but as I am not a fan of mushrooms, I opted not to try it. Perhaps that was his goal. He devoured it eagerly, so it must have been delicious.

Our burgers and brews left us satiated, thus we chose not to sample their Nutella cheesecake or variety of ice cream flavors. I did end up stopping by here a second time to try the Guinness float, which, if you love Guinness and ice cream, I cannot recommend enough.

Burgers and Brew
Burgers & Brew is on the corner of 3rd Street and C Street in Davis, California — across the street from Central Park (home of Davis’ famous Farmer’s Market). They’re open from 11 AM to midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and until 3 AM Thursday through Saturday. The restaurant also has locations in Sacramento and Chico. Definitely worth a stop!

PS: Village Bakery and Red Lion Tavern.
