Good morning and happy Monday! Are you surprised to see yet another brunch-related post here?
More and more recently, I’ve developed a love of all things brunch. I love eating it, I love cooking it, I love trying new restaurants and new menu items, and I’ve recently learned that I adore writing about it. So here you have it, another brunch post — this one about a local favorite: Bon Vivant.
Eric and I discovered Bon Vivant this past summer during a desperate, mid-morning search for Bloody Mary’s. A quick Foursquare search led us to Bon Vivant in the heart of Atwater Village.
We fell instantly in love with this homey yet spacious café. The service is friendly and prompt, the atmosphere is casual and fun, and the food is spectacular. You can enjoy coffee in one of the big, squishy couches at the front (facing the open-air patio), indulge in a hearty breakfast at any of the many high-top tables, or even grab a cocktail or two at the bar.
I’ve been working my way through the brunch menu and have yet to encounter a dish I don’t love. There are a few I recommend: The breakfast burrito is an excellent choice — it’s extremely filling and flavorful. The biscuits and gravy are rich and creamy, and should be reserved for a day when you’re feeling particularly famished. If you’re interested in something a little sweeter, go for the berries and cream crepes. Most of the menu items come with a choice of potatoes, fruit, or salad — I always go with the potatoes.
Bon Vivant has quickly become our weekend go-to brunch spot. But here’s the best thing about it: you can get brunch there every day of the week! Head on over and try it for yourself.
If you loved this post, you might also enjoy MessHall Kitchen’s weekend brunch and brunch at Crepeville in Davis, CA. This time last year, I was writing not about brunch, but about good times with my flatmates in London.
