We spent our last two nights in Kauai at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort, located just north of Lihue, Hawaii. It’s secluded location provided for a quiet, easygoing environment — exactly what we needed after an active week in crowded Poipu.
This time, our ocean-view room faced away from the hotel and overlooked the Nukolii Beach Park: beautiful rolling hills, tropical plants, distant palm trees, and crashing ocean waves. The best part? We couldn’t see or hear the resort pool. Only the calming sounds of the ocean, the breeze, and the occasional airplane flying out of Lihue Airport to the south could be heard.
Because the resort’s location is so isolated, we devoted our evenings to unwinding and dining at the hotel. There are two restaurants at the Kauai Beach Resort: Naupaka Terrace Restaurant, an upscale open-air dining room, and the fun, laid-back Shutters Bar & Grill. Both were far superior to the eateries at the Sheraton in Poipu, but I preferred Shutters. Small plates, relaxed atmosphere, tasty drinks, and live music — it doesn’t get much better, does it? Especially if you indulge in the pork riblets. Yum!
If you’re looking for a relaxing spot to spend a few nights in Kauai, the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort is perfect. I wish I’d spent more of our visit here, and definitely plan to return!
