L.A. Eats: Hugo’s Tacos

We’re going to get a little more casual with Today’s L.A. Eats, as I introduce you to Hugo’s Tacos!

Hugo’s Tacos is a fantastic chain of taco stands located in various parts of Los Angeles: Woodland Hills, Studio City, and Atwater Village. You can find hundreds of authentic taco stands throughout the Los Angeles area, but this one is a bit different.

Hugo’s Tacos is a healthier alternative to your traditional taco stand. The food isn’t greasy or heavy, and there are so many options! You can choose from tacos, burritos, nachos, bowls, salads, quesadillas, tamales, you name it. They even have burgers. The filling options consist of chicken, steak, carnitas, al pastor (a type of spiced pork), grilled fish, mixed veggies, and even soy chorizo. There are seven different types of salsa to choose from. Luckily, this place is popular enough that there is usually a short line so you have time to decide what you want.

Don’t be too dissuaded by the line — food is served quickly. I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than a few minutes for my meal.

I’ve been attempting to try something new each time we eat here, but the Al Pastor bowl with Honey Chipotle salsa is quickly becoming my favorite. The salsa is very sweet, but also has a spicy kick to it, which blends deliciously with the savory marinated pork. I like it in bowl form because I can mix the different elements together however I please, although I’m sure it would be just as appetizing wrapped up in a burrito or in taco form.

Because it’s a taco stand, there is no indoor seating. They do offer a number of tables at the side of the building with a tent cover to block the sun. We generally take our food to go.

Hugo’s Tacos also offers a breakfast menu, containing breakfast burritos, breakfast quesadillas, and breakfast bowls. They occasionally have special items, too, such as daily flavors of agua fresca (I love their horchata), potato tacos, and churros! With so many options, you’ll keep going back for more!

Writing this post has made me hungry — I guess I’ll have to stop by on my way home from work. See you at Hugo’s Tacos!
