A few weeks ago, Eric and I were out running errands around town when we realized it was already 2:30 and we’d yet to eat lunch. My husband suggested we try The Wooden Fork, a new restaurant in downtown Glendale. I’d seen its logo pop up on Eat 24, but otherwise knew nothing about it.
Walking in, I immediately noticed the bright, cheerful atmosphere. The restaurant has a rustic, Southern sort of charm; several chalkboards of specials adorn the walls, mismatched chairs snuggle up to whitewashed tables, and big, tarnished forks dominate the decor. A large deli display dominates the front counter, filled with a variety of appealing side dishes. We placed our order with the friendly employee at the nearby cash register.
The Wooden Fork’s menu offers a selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads, plus a few other specialty plates. I chose the Moroccan Plate, which came complete with soft, juicy grilled chicken, savory garlic potatoes, pickled vegetables, hummus and pita bread, and flavorful tahini sauce. Talk about a seriously delicious meal. Everything seemed to be made from fresh ingredients. It was one of the least processed meals I think I’ve eaten in a long time. And it was all so good.
I usually order water to drink, but their mint lemonade caught my eye. This turned out to be one of my best decisions of the day. Not too sweet and not overwhelmingly minty, the mint lemonade was refreshing and delicious.
Eric had the Italian Tuscan Lemon Chicken Panini, which was also tasty. The toasted ciabatta bread was slathered with a flavorful pesto sauce that just perfectly balanced the warm lemon chicken.
We were more than satisfied with our experience at The Wooden Fork. The pleasant location, friendly service, and delectable cuisine all added up to an enjoyable late afternoon lunch. And if all that wasn’t enough to ensure a return visit, the promise of an equally tasty brunch menu each Sunday certainly has me intrigued. I’ll definitely be coming back here, and soon!
