I’m a DIY whizz and I transformed a tired, old bed for just £45 – it looks amazing, you won’t believe it’s not brand new | The Sun

With the cost of living crisis putting huge strains on many people’s purses, if you haven’t got any spare cash lying around to splash on a new bed, fear not, we’ve got you covered.

One DIY fan, Geneva Vanderzeil, took to TikTok to show off her latest project.

The DIY whizz has a whopping 550k followers and 7.5million likes on the video sharing platform.

Geneva is “always making something” and decided to give her brother’s old bed a re-fresh with some bouclé material.

“I’ve seen so many of these dated, upholstered beds – this one’s my brothers and I’m giving it a glow up.”

The TikTok user shows off the tired, old bed and it is safe to say, it is in definite need of a re-fresh.

She explained: “The first thing I’m going to do is remove the legs.

“The next thing I’m going to do is lay out this bouclé fabric and cut it to size.

“I did actually consider doing linen for this but I decided that bouclé would be easier to execute and it was on sale.

“The most important thing is to keep the fabric really, really tight, so it has a nice finish.

“With most of the bed, I can hide the staples inside or at the back of the bed frame.

“On the front side, where you can see the join, I actually stitched the edge.

“After I’d done this, I tested a few staples and realised they looked exactly the same.

“The next thing I did was cut out the screws so I could put the bed back together.

“After adding the bouclé, I realised that the original feet were not going to look good.

“I noticed some scuff marks and realised that they were probably wood so I decided to give them a sand down – they actually looked so much better.

“The final step was to re-assemble the bed and then style it just for fun with some beautiful new sheets.

“And there you go – my upcycled, upholstered bed.

“It looks so comfy and cost like $50 [£46]”.

Geneva shows off the finished bed and we are stunned – not only does it look fabulous, we can’t believe how cheap and easy it was to do either.

Geneva’s video has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 529.4k views in just two days.

It has 51.5k likes, 143 comments and 273 shares.

Many people were stunned at the transformation and rushed to the comments to express this.

One person said: “Great idea!”

Another added: “I love this so much!! You’ve inspired me to do the same to my old bed”.

A third commented: “This is such a wonderful way to upcycle and repurpose!”

Someone else noted:  “The fact that I just gave away a bed like this for free, and I could’ve added bouclé fabric.. rookie mistake on my part”.

However, lots of social media users pointed out that Geneva should have washed the old bed before covering it with the new bouclé fabric.

One TikTok user commented: “I feel like the old upholstery should have been cleaned first because of the amount of discoloration and potential stains”.
