‘National treasure’ 99-year-old veteran raising money for NHS sends incredible message

Captain Tom Moore is raising money to help the NHS cope with the coronavirus pandemic by walking 100 lengths of his back garden before he turns 100 on April 30. The 99-year-old veteran told BBC Breakfast he was aiming at 10 laps of his garden, which is 25 metres in length, a day to reach his goal. As he was asked by BBC host Naga Munchetty to send a message to the nation at this challenging time, he said: “Remember: tomorrow will be a good day.

“Tomorrow everything will be fine, everything will be much better than today.

“Even if today was alright and my today is alright.

“But my tomorrow will certainly be alright.

“And that’s the way I’ve always looked at things.

“Tomorrow will be a good day!”

Hulu Claps Back at Twitter Users Complaining About Oscar-Winner Parasite Having Subtitles

“It’s not in English, no one wants to watch a movie that they literally have to read to understand what’s going on,” wrote on user.

It may be a four-time Oscar winner, including Best Picture, but some people still can’t get over the fact that "Parasite" demands they read … that is, if they don’t speak Korean.

The South Korean film was an instant sensation when it came out last year, becoming the first South Korean film to win the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. It went on to rack up awards and bank at the box office, culminating with those Oscar wins, which came also for director Bong Joon-ho, screenplay (Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won), and international film.

It was expected to take home international film, and was a strong contender for director, but it’s Best Picture win was one of the most delightful Oscar surprises of the past decade. And yet, for some detractors none of those things seem to matter.

Hulu was celebrating their exclusive streaming launch of the film on Wednesday via Twitter when the usual haters started giving their two cents. Rather than just let them rant to no one, Hulu’s social media page decided to engage, shutting them down brutally in the process.

"Pathetic movie," wrote one user. Hulu shot back, "It won … four Oscars." Even the "Parasite" official movie page got in on that one, countering the review (which lacked any insight or context) with their own clapback.

They’re right to tout their victory. Certainly critics and movie buffs have already made their opinions known, and they all seem to disagree with this critic.

But their best burn came when someone lamented the one problem that so many Americans seem to have with any foreign language film … reading!

"It’s not in English, no one wants to watch a movie that they literally have to read to understand what’s going on," said one user, though its $50 million-plus box office in the US and Canada would seem to disagree. Worldwide, it is the highest grossing South Korean film at $266 million, meaning people were willing to read it in all kinds of different languages.

Hulu had the perfect solution, though, for anyone who simply can’t handle subtitles. "You can always learn Korean," they suggested helpfully. Or perhaps the film’s director said it best while accepting his Oscar for a subtitled film:

Taylor Swift pays for green card for fan struggling with coronavirus hardships days before deportation – The Sun

TAYLOR Swift sent $3,000 to pay for the green card for a fan facing deportation after she lost her job due to COVID-19.

The pop superstar, 30, saw a Tumblr post from Skylar Kervin who detailed how she was just days away from being deported back to Canada because she could not afford a new green card.

The Canadian – who now lives in Alabama – exclusively revealed to The Sun: “I was facing deportation.

“My green card renewal was coming up and due to COVID-19, I lost my job. I was stressing about how I was going to afford to renew it.

“I had until Wednesday of next week to get my paperwork sent off. My last day in the US was scheduled for June 22nd,” the Swiftie said of the tight deadline.

Skylar – who has resided in the United States with her husband for five years now – opened up about her recent struggles online and caught the attention of the Lover songwriter.

"I would have been deported had Taylor’s generosity not come through,” the fan confessed.

She continued: “I’m using the money to renew my green card and if there is any remaining afterward I will be using it for a flight home to visit my family who I haven’t seen in over 3 years due to financial struggles.”

Just one day before she received her payment, Skylar opened up about the rush to remain in the United States.

She wrote on Tumblr Wednesday: “At the beginning of March I lost my serving job due to the closing of dine-in service in my state.”

Skylar continued: “I’lI have to renew my green card within the next 2 weeks and I have no idea how I’m now going to afford an extra $680 when I can barely afford to eat and pay my bills.

“Every tear, dollar, piece of paperwork, mile driven to appointments etc. is about to go out the window if they deport me due to the governments strict timelines with things like this.”

Along with a link to her PayPal account, Skylar also revealed that one week after she lost her position, her husband Matt was also out of a job due to the global pandemic.

The following day, Skylar received $3,000 along with a personal message from Taylor.

“I just read about everything you’re having to go through and it was so devastating to hear how much you have on your shoulders.

“I’m so so sorry. You and your family are just trying your best. I hope this gift of $3,000 helps you right now.

“Sending you a huge hug, Taylor,” the Blank Space singer wrote.

The Grammy winner has been sending money to deserving fans all month long as the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate worldwide.

The Masked Singer on FOX: Hunter Hayes ‘confirmed’ as Astronaut after anagram clue

Audiences are still gripped by the ongoing season of The Masked Singer’s US iteration. As the competition heats up on Fox, plenty of speculation has surrounded one contestant in particular, as fans are convinced they’ve worked out his identity.

The thrilling talent show will return this week for the second part of season three’s epic finale.

Reality star Jordyn Woods was unmasked as the Kangaroo this week after singing Hot Stuff by Donna Summer.

As the competition heats up, some fans have singled out the Astronaut as a favourite to win this season, after he impressed the judges with some major vocal chops.

However, in the latest episode, the intergalactic celeb felt the pressure after losing out to the Turtle, despite his impressive rendition of If I Can’t Have You by Shawn Mendes.

  • The Masked Singer on FOX: Fans expose Turtle as Hollywood actor?

As the Astronaut will be at risk when the series moves into the final round next week, some fans are pretty certain country star Hunter Hayes will eventually be revealed when the golden helmet is removed.

In addition to Astronaut’s previous clue packages, some fans have stumbled across a revealing clue that apparently seals his identity.

During his last clue package, the Astronaut teased fans when he said: “I’m an open book, now it’s your mission to ‘unearth’ who I am.”

One vigilant viewer took to Reddit when they realised ‘unearth’ is very likely a cleverly disguised anagram.

Reddit user JDCavallo said: “Astronaut’s ‘unearth’ clue is an anagram of ‘A Hunter’… Because Astronaut is a Hunter.”

Another fan agreed with the theory and replied: “I thought it was just because he’s an astronaut and earth is a planet, but nice work!”

Other theories have ranged from movie stars like Tom Holland, and former NSYNC member Lance Bass, but Hunter Hayes is the most convincing prediction so far.

Astronaut misled fans with their recent clue package, when they said: “I’m loving this fresh start as the circle of life keeps spinning.”

Some fans believed ‘the circle of life’ could have been a reference to The Lion King star Jonathan Taylor Thomas, though most viewers are convinced this was just a misdirect.

Over the course of the third season, there have been several other clues pointing to Hunter eventually being revealed as the Astronaut.

For instance, Astronaut recently revealed he had to ‘start over’, and Hunter has a 2014 song titled Nothing Like Starting Over.

Plus, he was also holding a record with the image of the Earth printed on it – a ‘world record’ – hinting at Hunter Hayes’ record for performing 10 shows in the space of 24 hours.

This clue is even more convincing, considering The Masked Singer revealed one of their contestants had a Guiness World Record before the season had even started.

Finally, Astronaut’s anonymous ‘Bro Pilot’ referenced the time Hunter fell on stage during a performance in 2013.

Although The Masked Singer is infamous for misdirects and red herrings, this recent anagram clue seems to confirm that Hunter Hayes is definitely the Astronaut.

The Masked Singer USA continues every Wednesday on Fox.

‘Fox & Friends’ Weekend Co-Host Jedediah Bila Says She’s Recovering From Coronavirus

Fox & Friends’ weekend co-host Jedediah Bila has revealed she is recovering from coronavirus.

Bila shared the news on social media Thursday. “I know I’ve been a little MIA, she wrote. “I’m actually at home recovering from Covid-19. I’m very much on the mend, so please don’t worry. My husband is also recovering well at home and Hartley luckily did not get sick (Thank you, God, I am forever grateful.”

Hartley is her infant son, who was born in November.

Bila last appeared on Fox & Friends on March 29.

As with other broadcast news networks, Fox News has put additional precautions in place enabling anchors and other on-air talent to broadcast from their homes amid the coronavirus crisis. This week, management also distributed thermometers and facial coverings to all essential employees still reporting to the company’s mid-town Manhattan headquarters.

Fox Business parted ways last month with one of its primetime hosts, Trish Regan, after putting her show on hiatus as the coronavirus crisis escalated. The move came after she delivered a segment that described the coronavirus pandemic as an “impeachment hoax.”

Bila is the latest TV news professional known to have tested positive for coronavirus. CNN’s Chris Cuomo and anchor Brooke Baldwin have both tested positive for COVID-19. Cuomo has continued to do his prime-time program in quarantine from the basement of his New York home.

Bila was previously a co-host on ABC’s The View.

Watching Under Quarantine: Movies Anywhere Screen Pass, Twitch Watch Parties, 'Reno 911' on Zoom, and More

I know different parts of the country adopted self-isolation and quarantine procedures at different times over the past several weeks, but many of us are coming up on a full month of being in quarantine due to COVID-19. And amid all of the Tiger King discourse, our daily streaming recommendations, and films like Parasite and Portrait of a Lady on Fire hitting Hulu, you may have missed a few things that might help make your time at home a tiny bit better. So let’s run through a few of them, shall we?

Movies Anywhere Screen Pass

You’re familiar with Movies Anywhere, right? The online hub that collects all of your digital film purchases? Well, Collider points out that they’re launching something called “Screen Pass” which allows you to remotely share the movies you own with friends and family. Most (but not all) movies seem to be eligible for the program, and once you sign up for the Beta program and select a Screen Pass eligible title, you simply text it to a friend, and they’ll have a limited time to watch it. You can do this three times per month, as long as you add one new movie to your library every six months. It might not be a perfect fit for everyone’s habits, but for those of you with a sizable Movies Anywhere selection, this sounds like a nice way to spread the love of movies safely.

Amazon Gets Into Community Viewing with Twitch Watch Parties

We recently wrote about Netflix Party, a third-party extension that allows viewers from all over the world to virtually hang out and watch a Netflix movie together, complete with a chat box on the side of the page. But none of the major streaming services have approached community viewing on their own…until now. Amazon is the first out of the gate with Twitch Watch Parties, which lets multiple people watch select movies and shows on Amazon Prime through Twitch.

But there are some pretty severe restrictions to this technology. Inverse reports that it’s only available to U.S. Twitch partners (although a rollout to everyone in the country is coming soon). Everyone who wants to watch has to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. And perhaps most crucially, this tech can’t be used for every single movie or show available on Amazon Prime – it’s limited to this list, which currently only has 73 items on it. That could change over time, but right now, it barely seems worth the hassle to try to organize a big group of people if there are all of these roadblocks in the way.

YouTube Originals

For those of you who never ponied up to pay for YouTube original programming (and I assume that is a lot of you), the streaming site is releasing several of its shows to the public for free due to the pandemic. For a limited time, you can now check out Step Up: High Water (Seasons 1-2), Me and My Grandma, Impulse (Seasons 1-2), Foursome (Seasons 1-2), Escape the Night (Seasons 1-4), SideswipedMatpat’s Game Lab, Overthinking with Kat & June, Re:Set, and The Fake Show. Personally, I have no clue what any of those things are, but if you’ve been eyeing them for a while but just couldn’t justify pulling the trigger to pay for them, today’s your day.

Adam Sandler’s New Song

Earlier this week on an episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon and virtual guest Adam Sandler played a new coronavirus-inspired song called “Don’t Touch Grandma.” It’s exactly what you think it’s going to be, so take that as you will.

Reno 911 Zoom Briefings

And finally, to promote Quibi’s upcoming revival of comedy series Reno 911, the cast has been gathering for Zoom “briefings” that can be found on Quibi’s YouTube page. Check out the first one above, and the second one below.

Why Fans Won't See Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in 'Spider-Man 3'

Marvel fans want Charlie Cox’s Daredevil back so badly they’ll take any scrap of information that says his Matt Murdock will be back somehow, even if a revived Daredevil is not in the works. That scrap has arrived from an unexpected place – Spider-Man.

The latest rumor going around says that Cox will appear as Matt Murdock in Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man film, due out next year. As things stand though, this is one of those rumors fans have to take not just with a grain of salt, but with a shaker.

What does the rumor say?

The rumor was voiced by Kevin Smith, the director whose movies often traffic in comic book tropes and who has directed several episodes of DC’s superhero shows, including The Flash and Supergirl. He was also in the 2003 version of Daredevil with Ben Affleck as the lead. So he has an inside track when it comes to all things superhero comics.

According to Inverse, Smith said on one of his podcasts, “Did you hear that Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie, gonna have a lawyer in it? A famous Marvel Universe lawyer? … Charlie Cox, they ‘re bringing in as Matt Murdock. That’s been the rumor online and they say that’s like the one, that like Marvel’s like, **** it how did that get out?”

However, Smith walked back the comments somewhat in a later tweet, saying, “Perspective: While I, too, hope this rumor is true, please remember that I only talked about it with @marcbernardin on #FatManBeyond after I read about it on the internet, just like everyone else. This means I have no inside info. Much like everybody else, I’m just a hopeful fan.”

What do fans say about the possibility?

Fans on Reddit were all abuzz at the possibility, with the topic-starter saying, “I mean, what are the chances for real? I mean Netflix to some extent still own the rights to that character (that specific universe and such) so in order for Marvel Studios to have Daredevil in the movie, they would need to retcon the entire Netflix show and just put him in the movie with a new actor and basically reboot the character. I wonder…?”

Fans guessed that the role would most likely be a cameo, where we would see one half of the character, but not the other. One said, “Could appear as Matt Murdock the lawyer but definitely not gonna be a Spider-Man & Dare Devil movie.”

But another fan countered, “The chances right now are pretty dim. If the movie begins its production from July as stated then there would be a very slight chance for Charlie Cox as daredevil. Because the Netflix clause would end in November and by that time maybe the film will be done shooting. But if there is even a small chance of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock then they should take it with absolute certainty.”

On the movie news program The John Campea Show, the host doubted the rumor was true but he wouldn’t dismiss it completely, because one never knows for sure with Marvel. He stated, “It’s something I’m not taking and throwing in the incinerator., I’m taking it and putting it up on a shelf.”

It would not hard but not impossible for Cox’s Daredevil to return

One of the factors that gums up the works here is that after the Marvel/Netflix shows were canceled, there was an agreement that Marvel could not work on a new version of the series or character until this 2020. While that’s this year, a lot of factors are hanging in the air, including the pandemic, which may or may not ease up in time to allow production on Spider-Man 3 to begin this summer, as is scheduled.

Nevertheless, Cox would be game, if his comments from an interview last year still hold true.

In an interview with the AV Club, he said, “I still feel like I am that character right now. I don’t know. I guess it is what it is. It’s the uncertainty that kills you. [Laughs.] In a way, I think I just put that in the back of my mind, and I’m focused on other work right now, and we’ll see what happens, and if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”

Then this exchange happened:

AVC: So if Disney called tomorrow and said, “We need Daredevil to team up with Hawkeye,” you’d be on board.

CC: [Laughs.] Yeah, where do I sign?

Rocket Raccoon's Journey: Guardians Of The Galaxy Director Discusses Character's 3-Movie Arc

GameSpot’s sister site Comicbook.com recently hosted a “Quarantine Watch Party” of Guardians of the Galaxy with director James Gunn, where the director watched the film and tweeted about it alongside fans, answering questions as they came in. The site has collected some of the best insights to come out of the watch party, which includes some details about the upcoming third film in the series and some details about Gunn’s process working with Marvel.

Responding to a question about Rocket Raccoon’s origins, and whether GOTG Chapter 3 will dig into them further, Gunn said that the third movie will pay off on longterm plans for the character. He says that a lot of what we’ve seen so far “sets up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along.”

Digging in further, Gunn talks about the importance of Rocket’s cybernetic implants, which are crucial to the character and the series. “Rocket’s loneliness and disaffection is at the center of the franchise for me,” he says.

One of the surprising reveals from Gunn’s tweets is that he was given a tremendous amount of freedom over how he worked within the Marvel universe, and was essentially allowed to do what he wanted, even with major lore elements like the Infinity Stones. “The ONLY thing Marvel asked me to include was a Thanos cameo and said maybe I could create an origin for the Infinity Stones,” Gunn says. What that origin looked like was, essentially, up to him.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Chapter 3 does not have a set date yet, and is not part of the recently reshuffled phase 4 of the Marvel cinematic universe. This means that we’ll likely be waiting until at least 2023 for a third movie.

Back in 2018, Gunn said that the movie would be “very different” from the first two. Gunn was fired from the project over offensive tweets he made between 2009 and 2011, only to be subsequently rehired in 2019 as it became clear that Gunn has changed since those tweets were made.

James Gunn is currently in post-production of his next project, the DC soft reboot The Suicide Squad.
