Life: BBC release trailer for new drama starring Alison Steadman
Alison Steadman, 74, has been left feeling depressed after watching the news, including recent reports on Donald Trump and his supporters. The Gavin and Stacey star thinks the world is “a mess” right now, especially across the pond where Joe Biden has recently been inaugurated.
Alison watches the news to keep up to date with current events during the ongoing UK lockdown.
However, she said: “I don’t have time to read. But when I put on the news, it’s so depressing and this stuff with Donald Trump… I find the whole world seems to be in a mess.
“Every corner of it seems to be in a mess. Every leader just seems irresponsible. It just is awful.”
Alison is an admirer of President Biden, who she prefers to his Republican predecessor.

She continued: “I love Joe Biden, he just seems to be a lovely man. Honest, caring, with no ego. He’s not a madman like Donald Trump.”
One of the main reasons that she felt unimpressed with the 45th President Of The United States, was because of his encouragement of presumed “fascist” groups.
Alison added: “I mean the way Trump has encouraged all these Proud Boys and all these awful groups. Who are fascist groups, it’s absolutely appalling.
“I find it very frightening, so thank God we have got a Democratic leader, we all influence each other in politics. It’s just good to have a Democratic leader.”
Two weeks ago, rioters, who associated themselves with Trump, stormed the Capitol Building in Washington to protest against the swearing-in of President-elect at the time.
Biden addressed the riots as “one of the darkest days in the history of our nation” and blamed Trump for stoking violence after he refused to accept the result of the election at the time.
However, despite it being a tough time for many, the actress is appreciating having good health and spending lockdown with her partner of over 25 years, Michael Elwyn.
Alison divulged: “I’m touching wood that I’m OK, I’m not ill, my family are okay.

“So many people have been hit by COVID and lost members of their family or friends. So I’m not complaining.”
Although she has encountered difficult days that have left her feeling emotional, as she is unable to see her extended family in person.
She continued: “I don’t like it. I find it tough. Some days I feel quite tearful. I miss seeing people, I miss my family. We do FaceTime and Zoom every now and again. It’s not the same obviously.”
Britain is currently in its third government ordered lockdown to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed, amid the coronavirus pandemic that began last year.
Meanwhile, Alison is best known for her hilarious performance as loveable Pam in Gavin and Stacey, which aired on BBC One from 2007 to 2010.
Alison looks back on her time in the sitcom with great fondness and said that she still regularly keeps in contact with her colleagues via a WhatsApp group.
Alison said: “We have got a group WhatsApp, we do keep in contact. I keep in touch with Larry [Lamb] all the time.
“Larry sends me funny memes, he sends me them more or less every other day. 90 per cent of them are honestly hilarious!”
