Beck Discusses Remixing Paul McCartney’s ‘Find My Way’
In an interview ahead of the release of Paul McCartney‘s remix album McCartney III Imagined, Beck discussed remixing “Find My Way” for the Beatles legend.
“My whole year was canceled, with the shutdowns and everything,” Beck told Rolling Stone. “My engineer’s wife was having a baby, so he wasn’t available. I really hadn’t been making much music. My studio had been dark for a year.”
Then came the call from McCartney, asking for Beck to remix one of its songs, Beck recalled. “‘OK, McCartney’s calling, let’s get in there and figure out how everything works,” he added. “It gave me something to do.”
Inspired by a summer night a few years ago when he went dancing with McCartney and his wife, Beck noted that he “wanted the whole thing to sound a little bit weathered and warped, almost like a lost groove from some other time. … I wanted to make a track that would feel like that night when we were all hanging out and having a good time.”
McCartney III Imagined — a collection of cover versions, remixes, and reinterpretations of songs from the 2020 album McCartney III, was released on April 16.
Along with Beck, the tracks feature McCartney’s fellow artists and friends, including Anderson .Paak, Blood Orange, Damon Albarn, Dominic Fike, EOB, Idris Elba, Josh Homme, Khruangbin, 3D RDN from Massive Attack, Phoebe Bridgers and St. Vincent.
