Carol Vorderman, 59, was joined by comedian Kiri Pritchard-McLean, 33, on her BBC Radio Wales today, in which they discussed their teenage crushes. During their chat, the former Countdown star expressed her shock after Kiri informed her about a dating term.
Carol’s guest revealed she had a crush on Take That star Gary Barlow during her younger years and said she fancied him because she thought he was the “ugliest” in the band.
Stunned by her theory, Carol asked: “Is this how it worked back in the day?”
“Go for the weak link, go for the runt of the litter and it actually might happen,” Kiri joked, which prompted Carol and her co-star Nathan Sussex to laugh.
Carol then asked if Kiri would ever tell Gary the story about why she fancied him, if she ever met him.

The comedian replied: “Well, that’s sort of negging isn’t it, when you try to undermine someone?”
Confused by her comment, Carol queried: “What’s negging?”
Kiri explained: “Negging is big thing in dating.”
“There is so much I don’t know about negging and dating,” Carol replied, keen to know more.
The comedian then summarised what negging is, telling the hosts it’s like giving somebody a compliment, while undermining them at the same time.
Giving an example, she added: “That dress is really nice, I saw someone really pretty wearing it the other day.”
Kiri’s response was met with a gasp from Carol and Nathan as they expressed their shock at the negative meaning.
Wanting to find out more, the presenter asked: “How are you meant to react to that? I’d walk out!”

“Good for you, you are neg-proof,” Kiri replied.
“I am neg-proof! Yes,” Carol enthused. “I’d make them pick up the whole bill, one of the two.”
She added: “Wow, I didn’t know people did that. Why would somebody do that?”
Kiri then suggested it could be to do with a person’s insecurity.
