After proving unsuccessful in his first two attempts at finding love on Celebs Go Dating, Joey Essex is returning to the dating show and hoping he is third time lucky.

The former TOWIE star, who was 'sent home' after reportedly being lined up to star on this year's I'm A Celebrity, took to Instagram to reveal the exciting news.

The official Celebs Go Dating Instagram account posted a video that said, "New Celeb Alert."

Joey, 30, then appeared on the screen and said: "I got some big news for you, Joey Essex is joining the mansion! What are you saying? Listen, third time lucky".

He then came back for the second series to find love, alongside fellow TOWIE star Ferne McCann and Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter.

Filming for the show was halted for a short period after a celebrity tested positive for coronavirus, but after testing negative shortly after, production was allowed to continue.

A spokesperson for Celebs Go Dating told OK! Online: "The cast member who tested positive earlier for Covid during filming Celebs Go Dating has since tested negative on subsequent occasions.

"Having taken extensive medical advice and with the support of Public Health England they are deemed to be non-infective.

"All cast members will be tested prior to entering the house following their recent isolation. Celebs Go Dating will resume imminently," the representative confirmed.
