Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Announce Their Daughter’s Name

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced the name of their daughter: Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Lili was born on Friday, June 4, and the Sussexes shared the news on Sunday.

“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA,” the couple shared in an announcement. “She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

The Sussexes chose very meaningful names for their daughter, beginning with her first name, which pays tribute to Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” the announcement explained.

And, of course, Lili’s middle name, Diana, is a tribute to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997.

“Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” the Sussexes’ announcement explains.

“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the birth announcement concluded. “The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”

Any additional updates about the newest member of the royal family will likely be shared via the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation website.
