Paddy McGuinness: Top Gear host’s wife on relationship strain ‘There’s no time for us’

Christine McGuinness, 31, has opened up on the difficulties that come with being “full-time carers” to their three children. The couple, who tied the knot in 2011, share twins Leo and Penelope, six, and three-year-old Felicity.

All three of the couple’s children have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

Speaking candidly about the pressures that come with being a “strong unit” for their family, the model admitted it has taken its toll on her marriage.

“There’s no time for us as a couple. No quality time, no date nights,” she confessed to this week’s OK! Magazine.

“Not even time to have a laugh together. We’re full-time carers and the kids come before everything.”

She also revealed she has struggled with who to talk to after a bad day.

Christine explained: “I’m the worst when it comes to telling people I’m struggling. I will never say if I’ve had a bad day and, to be honest, there’s no one I feel I can speak to.

“I just don’t feel there’s anyone in my life that I would fully trust with anything.

“And then it’s also that fear that if I get upset and let my emotions out, I won’t be able to get myself back together.”

The emotional revelation comes after she announced Felicity had been diagnosed at the age of three, earlier this month.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Christine posted a heartfelt poem dedicated to her children.

It read: “I am so proud to be your mummy, you are everything to me. All three of you are thriving with ASD [Autistic Spectrum Disorder].

“I will never try and change you, you are perfect as you are. Mummy is going to change the world to understand her superstars.

“You are sensitive, you are strong, and you have such a special bond. You are funny and talented, cheeky and sweet, you all love your toys to be kept extra neat.”

She finished: “Shining brighter than the stars above. You are special, so wanted and oh so loved.

“Leo, Penelope and Felicity, you are unaware of the positive impact you have, even on the tough days you even make me laugh.

“My trio, my babies, my fabulous three. Together we are a strong, proud, unique family.”

Christine poured her heart out in the caption of the post, saying that her little ones will “face challenges and difficulties others won’t”.

However, she highlighted that she is confident that the family can use their “experience and knowledge” to get through it.

She added that she “thanks God every day” for her “babies”.

Christine finished by sharing a string of hashtags, including one that hailed her children “three superstars”.
