He walked the Coronation Street cobbles as Rosie Webster's goth boyfriend Craig Harris.
But 15 years on and there's little chance a casual passerby would recognise former child star Richard Fleeshman as his Corrie alter ego.
Now 32 the actor has undergone a total transformation, sporting a hunky gym-honed physique, worthy of the biggest action movie A-lister.
The change is understandable – Richard was just 12 years old when he landed his big break on Corrie in 2002, as the floppy-haired Craig Harris.
During his time on the cobbles, Richard's character began a romance with Rosie Webster before his whole life was turned upside down.
Amid the drama surrounding her romance with Martin Platt, Craig's sister Katy, played by Lucy Jo Hudson, killed their dad Tommy Harris and their mum Angela was sent to jail.
Katy later died in hospital when she fell into a diabetic coma.
Viewers then saw Craig leave Weatherfield to go and stay with his maternal grandfather, Keith Appleyard.
While on the show Richard was already a budding singer, finding wider fame as the winner of Stars In Their Eyes celeb special at 13. He emerged triumphant again on Soapstar Superstar in 2006, for which he earned £200,000 for his chosen charity.
It was his love of music that was to become his future career.
After leaving Corrie aged 16 Richard found work and success on the West End and Broadway, with roles in hit shows including Legally Blonde and Ghost: The Musical which was based on the film with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.
Outside of his work on stage Richard is an accomplished singer-songwriter.
In his personal life, Richard is in a relationship with Dutch West End star Celinde Schoenmaker.
Pre Covid the photogenic pair travelled the globe together, posting aspirational couple shots to Instagram as they did.
Celebrating Richard's birthday this week, Celinde posted a collage of their time together.
She wrote: "Swipe for some wholesome Richard content. Happy birthday to my big love, best friend, earth lover, traveller, and just the most awesome human being I know. Here’s to many more road travelled together. Grateful to have been by your side this past year."
