Russell Crowes beloved dog dies on anniversary of dads death

Russell Crowe, 58, regularly takes to his social media accounts to share updates on his life with his little companion, Louis the Papillion.

However, the Hollywood actor took to the microblogging site to share a heartbreaking update today, saying that his dog had been “hit by a truck” on the second anniversary of his father, John Alexander Crowe’s death.

He wrote along with a picture of his pet in view of his 2.9 million Twitter followers: “This is Louis the Papillion. 16 months old. Tiny, cheeky, brave. He won my heart.

“Unfortunately today, on the second anniversary of my father’s passing, Louis was hit by a truck.

“We tried to get him to the vet, but he died in my arms while I was telling him how much we loved him.”

Many social media users rushed to the comments to share their condolences over the tragic news.

Chaddukes said: “That’s horrendous. Hope he is playing with Murray right now. Saying a prayer.”

Aliciar added: “I am so sorry! What a beautiful face and those eyes. I like to think our pets wait for us to join them one day, loyal as ever.”

Plbeaudry commented: “I’m so sorry. What a painful addition to an already painting day for you.

“@Russellcrowe prayers for you and yours in your pain. I hope you have plenty of good memories to cherish with both of them.”

Russell loved to share updates of his life with Louis, sharing a picture of the pair in December with the dog wearing a Ralph Lauren polo shirt, matching the actor.

He wrote on December 21: “I’m not at all a fan of dressing dogs up, but a friend bought little Louis a

@RalphLauren polo so he can match with dad.

“I think the other dogs on the farm are going to get jealous. Pretty funny.”

Russell announced the death of his dad John in 2021, calling him the “most gentle of men” in a series of heartfelt tweets.

He wrote: “I arrived back in the bush last night. Today, although the sun is shining and the torrential rain has abated, this date will forever be tinged with sadness.

“My dear old man, my beautiful dad, the most gentle of men, has passed away.

“I’m posting this because I know there are people all over the world whose hearts he touched and whose ribs he tickled with his sparkly eyes and his cheeky attitude to everyone, and everything, and this is probably as efficient a method as any to pass on the news.

“John Alexander Crowe 13th March 1936 – 30th March 2021 Born in Christchurch, New Zealand. Passed away in Coffs Harbour, NSW, his home for the last 25 years. Rest In Peace.”

Prior to John’s death, the pair were isolated together at the family’s country estate in Nana Glen, New South Wales, with Russell revealing that he wanted to be close to his parents John and Jocelyn during the pandemic.
