So You Think You Can Dance star Danny Tidwell dies aged 35

Former So You Think You Can Dance contestant Danny Tidwell has died at the age of 35 after being involved in a car crash.

The American dance star was best known for being a runner up in the third season of the US version of the dance show – hosted by British television presenter Cat Deeley, 43.

Danny was described by dance icon and SYTYCD judge Debbie Allen as a “dancing genious” as tributes flooded in following news of his death.

American news site E! News reported that the dancer died after being involved in a car accident on Friday – while Danny’s brother Travis Wall confirmed the news via Instagram on Saturday.

“Yesterday I lost a brother. And we all lost a gift,” Travis wrote.

“I’m not ready. But I never think I will be. Because I can’t believe this is real. I can’t believe you’re gone. You were more than my brother. You were my inspiration,” he continued.

"I idolized you growing up. Wanted to dance just like you. Wanted to be you!” he added.

Show judge Debbie, 70, took to Twitter to offer her condolences as she paid tribute to the dance star.

“Danny Tidwell, our beautiful dancing genius ‘Prince amongst Paupers’ you are in God’s Ensemble,” she tweeted.

"We will always speak your name with love and respect. See you on the other side,” she added.

Danny tainted with the American Ballet Theatre before taking to the SYTYCD stage in 2007.

After finishing second on the show, he went on to dance on other reality shows including American Idol and Dancing With The Stars – and also worked as a soloist for Norway’s National Ballet.
