Steph McGovern,38, retweeted a video of hospital porter Mark Lowe’s funeral cortege being driven up a street in South Tees where staff at James Cook University Hospital flocked out to say their goodbyes. The BBC Breakfast presenter revealed that her mum who is an NHS member of staff had previously worked with Mark.
Steph shared the ITV News video with her 404k followers as she wrote: “What a lovely tribute. #RIPMarkLowe
“My mam worked with Mark and said he was a great bloke. Not surprised all the staff want to honour him.”
Her fans also took time to repay their respects to the father of two.
One said: “Porters do such a valuable job and get very little recognition. Our Geordie @50Sense is very proud of this.”

Another replied: “You are right Steph. A lovely lad.”
Mark was a family man who had been married to partner Amanda for 25 years and was a doting dad to sons Jack, 14, and Harry, 11.
He lost his battle with COVID-19 on May 28 aged 46, and had worked at the James Cook University Hospital as a radiology porter for 20 years.
His death shook trust staff to the core, with chief executive Sue Page saying people were “heartbroken at the loss of a member of our South Tees’ family”.
Steph’s mum was a radiographer for 40 years with the NHS.
She previously spoke on helping The Sun raise vital funds for hospital workers: “What is clear is how much our NHS staff put others first. They genuinely care.”
“For that we should be celebrating every single one of them.”
“Mum kept me level-headed. If I was moaning about some telly thing, she’d be like, ‘I’ve been dealing with cancer patients’. She’s always made me put life in perspective, and she loved her job,” she added.

Over on her podcast, Steph explained the difficulties she and her partner have faced of spending time together alone.
“And I’ve said that I want a date night. So once the baby is asleep we’re basically going to pretend that we’re going out,” the Channel 4 host told listeners.
“So we’re going to turn one of the rooms into a restaurant or a bar and pretend that we’re out.”
