Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warned Wayne Rooney that any goal he scores against Manchester United will come off of his club-record tally.

And the Old Trafford boss reckons his old team-mate is on an FA Cup mission to prove “there’s still fight in the old dog”.

Despite his tongue-in-cheek comments, Solskjaer believes the Derby player coach — who rattled in 253 goals for the Red Devils — still possesses a real danger to his team’s silverware hopes this season.

Solskjaer said: “He’s a threat in and around the box and from set plays.

“We’ve got to be on our toes and not give him any space in midfield because he’s got that Paul Scholes-like passing range.

“Wayne’s been a fantastic player for Manchester United. I don’t think the fans under-rated him, everyone appreciates what he did for us.”

WAYNE ROONEY admits he still sees the red mist… even at the age of 34.

The Rams ace, who netted 253 times for United and 53 for his country, admitted: “I am still trying to learn how to control it now.

“It came into play a couple of weeks ago when we played Luton away.

“I went in the dressing room and I absolutely erupted. I had to take myself away before I went too far. I took myself into the shower area and had a few seconds to myself.”

GARETH SOUTHGATE has apologised to Chris Smalling for his public England rejection – and opened the door to a stunning recall ahead of Euro 2020.

Manchester United defender Smalling, who has impressed on loan at Roma this season, was hurt by Southgate’s decision to axe him from the England squad in November 2017.

Southgate said: “I’ve never ruled anybody out. I think that would be wrong.

“I think I said I probably regretted the way the message came across if, by praising others for certain attributes, there was criticism for Chris. It was my fault and it was unfair on him.”
