Are Working British Royals Like Kate Middleton and Prince William Allowed To Get Tattoos?

Tattoos are a way for people to express themselves, or maybe just a fun way to display something near and dear to them. For the average person, deciding what to do or wear is a no-brainer: do what you like and enjoy. For the royals; however, it is a completely different story.

As it turns out, Queen Elizabeth has a long list of rules that she expects working members of the royal family to closely adhere to. While some royals slightly bend the rules at times, for the most part, working royals must do what is expected of them.

The fact that there is a certain protocol definitely raises the question as to if working British royals like Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are allowed to get tattoos? Let’s take a look.

What rules do working royals have to follow?

The queen likes her family to put forth a very specific image — there is no question about that. While things certainly aren’t as strict as they were many years ago, there are still things that she simply won’t tolerate.

So, what rules must be followed? According to Reader’s Digest, there is quite a list. Women must not sit with their legs crossed at the knee, only at the ankles. They also must be sure to dress modestly and cover up cleavage at all times.

There are even rules regarding what and how the royals eat. Utensils must be held in the correct hands. At formal dinners, everyone must stop eating when the queen does. Not only that, but napkins must always be folded in half, and teacups need to be held a certain way.

All royal women know that hats must be worn to formal events and skirts must be knee-length or longer. As for makeup, only sheer, neutral makeup and nail polish are permitted.

So, can working royals such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ever make a visit to the local tattoo parlor? Well, maybe.

According to Cosmopolitan, it is possible that they can, but they had better make sure that there is no way it is ever visible to anyone. Does that mean that we won’t be seeing stylish Kate appear at a royal event with her children’s names inked on the inside of her wrist or on her ankle? It most definitely does!

It also means that Prince William won’t be revealing a tattoo of Kate’s name and their wedding date on his forearm, either. Working royals must make sure that if they do decide to get a tattoo, it is never, ever seen.

Do any members of the royal family have tattoos?

Does this strict rule mean that none of the queen’s family members have any ink at all? No, not really.

According to Hello!, we have even seen Kate and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex with some cool body ink. The only catch is that it wasn’t permanent.

Lady Amelia Windsor has several tattoos, however. But she is 38th in line to the throne, so it isn’t such a big deal.

While it is refreshing to know that even the royals are allowed to do the same fun things as anyone else, it is important to note that there are still some rules in place for those who carry out duties on a regular basis on behalf of the queen.
