With face masks now mandatory for most people across the UK, "maskne" has become the new beauty buzzword, and it essentially means breakouts brought on by frequent wearing of face coverings.

While most of us can avoid this by ensuring we wear fresh masks every day and being mindful of the products we apply to our skin, for a lot of people, masks are causing an increase in pesky breakouts. Just ask Dr Pimple Popper, who has spoken out about the growing concern.

The celebrity skin doctor, known for removing people’s spots on camera, has revealed her quick and easy hack for preventing mask-induced acne.

Dr. Sandra Lee uploaded a short video to her TikTok account, demonstrating how she keeps her skin clear from breakouts – and it's as easy as a simple spritz of a salicylic acid-based spray.

In the short clip shared with her 1.8 million followers, the dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon is seen spraying her blue medical mask with the Salicylic Acid Body Spray from her own brand SLMD Skincare.

“Spray it on the inside of your mask,” she instructs. “Fan your mask to dry it a little.”

“Salicylic acid cleans out the oil and debris within your pores, preventing acne.”

Unfortunately, the spray that Dr Pimple Popper uses in the clip is only available to purchase in the US right now – but any salicylic acid-based face spritz will do the job.

While Dr. Lee recommends a product that mainly targets “bacne” – back acne – if you’re swapping to a product available in the UK, we would suggest opting for a product designed specifically for the complexion, to be on the safe side.
