Greggs set to open first Scottish drive-thru store, open from 5am to midnight

What’s better than a Greggs? A drive-thru Greggs, obviously.

For Scottish steak bake lovers, this is about to become a reality, as the chain recently announced their plans for the first of its kind in the country.

The Clydebank Post revealed that Greggs had submitted a planning application Glasgow City Council for a space for the outlet, which is currently yet to be approved.

If it is approved (which will happen by May 29) the drive-thru bakery will be in the Great Western Retail Park in Drumchapel, situated not far from existing restaurants like Pizza Hut and Burger King.

The food stop is set to be open seven days a week from 5am to midnight if approved, so early morning and late night sausage roll runs will be more than facilitated.

This would mark the fifth drive-thru spot for the much-loved company, with the others located in Manchester, Lancashire, Derbyshire, and Newcastle.

At the launch of the Newcastle branch – which was just a stone’s throw from the first ever Greggs shop – the first customers who rocked up were treated to exclusive Greggs merch, so here’s hoping it’ll be the same win for the Scottish customers.

Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive of Greggs, said at the time: ‘Since Greggs was founded 80 years ago, we’ve constantly evolved as a business to meet the changing needs of our customers.

‘We know that having convenient access to quality food on the go is key, so that’s why we’re opening more stores where our customers want us to be, including more travel locations.

‘We’ve experienced high demand from our existing Drive-Thru shops and we hope to replicate this successful format elsewhere across the UK.’

Lockdown can be a depressing time, but with beacons of hope like this on the horizon, there’s something to look forward to.

And that something is yum-yums on the go.
