I have not seen my daughters since divorce and I miss them so much – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: FROM the moment my divorce came through, I never saw my kids again.

It was like a light switch had been turned off.

They are young women now in their twenties and I miss them.

I wasn’t a good dad, I’m afraid. I was never violent to them or their mum but I was always angry.

I had a spinal injury after coming off my motorbike and I was in constant pain, so they probably just remember me shouting at them all the time.

They were 11 and 13 at the time of the divorce.

I’m a man of 45 now and I live alone and walk with a frame. My ex-wife has moved on.

She has remarried and I don’t even know where she lives.

I have texted her many times to wish my daughters happy birthday but, if she replies at all, it is normally to have a dig at me. I miss my girls so much.

DEIDRE SAYS: How painful. But now your children are adults, they do have the choice whether to see you or not.

Try to contact their mum again, via a relative maybe, and say how sorry you are for the way you treated her and your daughters.

Ask her to pass on your contact details to them. You may find they make contact when they have children themselves, if not before.

You will be able to find understanding support through Families Need Fathers (fnf.org.uk, 0300 0300 363).
