The Apple iPod is one of the most instantly recognisable and influential products of all time. Long before music streaming, the Apple iPod was the go-to-choice for people looking for a premium MP3 player that packed bags of style. First launched in 2001, the iPod was an instantly recognisable gadget – thanks to the iconic and revolutionary click wheel, which appeared on the first gen iPod and was a mainstay through different generations.
Unfortunately though, these days if you’re hoping to pick up an iPod you don’t have too many options.
The iconic iPod Classic ended up being discontinued in 2014, with the Nano and Shuffle suffering the same fate in 2017.
The iPod Touch – which looks more like an iPhone, thanks to its large touch screen and lack of click wheel – is the only iPod that Apple currently sells.
Apple unveil their brand new purple iPhone 12
If you’ve been in a nostalgic mood recently, and have been pining for the classic iPod, then we’ve got some good news.
Thanks to a new website, you can transform your smartphone so it sports an iPod-style music player which can be linked up to a Spotify or Apple Music account.
This nostalgia-inducing page is the work of frontend developer Tanner Villarete.
Villarete’s site resembles a 6th generation iPod Classic, and you can play songs from your Spotify or Apple Music accounts through it.
The iPod player features a working click wheel to navigate through all the different songs in your library.
While it also even features an old school Breakout-style game that can be played.
The iPod player also boasts a working Cover Flow menu, so you can use the click wheel to scroll through all the different album artwork from your Spotify or Apple Music libraries.
Click here if you want to head to the website to try out the iPod player.
You’ll need to sign in to your Apple Music or Spotify account for the feature to work.
Other streaming services such as Deezer and YouTube Music aren’t supported.
