'Moon Knight' Season 2: Oscar Isaac Confirms There Are 'No Official Plans,' but He'd Love to Continue

Now that Moon Knight‘s finale has dropped on Disney+, there’s one question on many fans’ minds: will there be a season 2? Rumors about another installment started circulating in the days leading up to episode 6. However, star Oscar Isaac confirmed in a recent interview that Marvel currently has no plans for Moon Knight Season 2, as far as he knows. On the bright side, though, he also said he’d be willing to reprise his role if the call did come.

‘Moon Knight’ Season 2 rumors circulated ahead of the finale

Although Moon Knight was billed as a limited series, many fans have held out hope that Marvel would continue the story with a second season. Those hopes only grew stronger on May 2, when Marvel Studios sent out a suspicious tweet that seemed to hint at more episodes on the way.

At first, the studio posted a Moon Knight trailer and teased the “series finale” in the caption. However, the account quickly deleted the tweet and re-published it to say the “season finale.”

Marvel has yet to confirm Moon Knight Season 2, so the word choice in that tweet likely didn’t have much meaning. It’s possible the studio simply wants to keep the door open for future episodes. Still, it certainly got fans talking about the possibility.

“It doesn’t feel like it should stop at a six-episode run, definitely, but the official word was that it was planned to be a standalone project, at least as far as contracts go,” one fan on Reddit wrote. “There’s an implicit possibility of more to come, and ‘money talks’ is the MO for these kinds of things. Talking up the notion of this being a limited series always just felt like a marketing tactic to get fans to be more vocal about wanting more.”

Oscar Isaac says there are no plans for ‘Moon Knight’ Season 2, but he’d love to play Steven again

The cast won’t completely rule out Moon Knight Season 2, either. In an interview with RadioTimes, Oscar Isaac confirmed that Marvel initially pictured Moon Knight as a once-and-done project.

“You know, I think we approached it as ‘this is the story,’” he said. And let’s just put everything out on the table in this story. There’s definitely no official plans to continue it. I think it would depend on what the story is.”

With that said, Isaac also said he “loves being Steven [Grant].” And the fans love seeing him as Steven Grant — in fact, many have called for Isaac to win awards for his acting in Moon Knight. So, if Marvel did want to make more Moon Knight, and “if there was a story that really made sense,” Isaac would “be happy” to return.

Isaac’s co-stars had similar thoughts on the subject. May Calamawy, who played Layla El-Faouly, said she would “consider” returning. Meanwhile, Ethan Hawke, a.k.a. Arthur Harrow, said it could come down to what the audience wants.

“Do you want to play the same character for long periods of time? Most actors don’t. But if you’re making audiences happy, your opinion changes,” he added.

Director Mohamed Diab believes Oscar Isaac has a strong future in the MCU

Even if Marvel does not move forward with Moon Knight Season 2, there could still be a place for Oscar Isaac elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab felt confident that Isaac’s character will live on in some form.

“What I’m absolutely sure of is that Moon Knight is staying, staying for a long time, in my opinion. That’s just a prediction,” he recently told Collider. “He’s so interesting that I think he’s going to stay, but what’s going to happen next? Is he going to be on another season? Is it going to be a film? [Will] he join someone else? My guess is yours.”
