Pharrell Williams Releases Book of Essential and Inspiring Collection of Quotations, 'Pharell-isms'
Multi-hyphenate Pharrell Williams has already announced his next big venture, releasing a book of some of his most iconic quotations. Titled Pharrell-isms, the book allows fans to dive deeper into the wisdom of the Louis Vuitton creative director.
In his new book the tome reads that Pharrell is “encouraged and embodied a rethinking of traditional masculinity.” Other thoughts present include his perception of the human body as “a canvas” for expressing oneself. While he is interested in jewelry and has long stopped worrying about what other people thought of his fashion choices, Pharrell’s new 168-page book gives audiences a glimpse into his life mantras and some of the most iconic sayings he has been heard uttering in interviews and speeches from the last decade.
The book features an entire chapter dedicated to fashion, giving fans a clue as to what they can expect from Pharrell as the new creative director of Louis Vuitton. In the chapter, the artist admits that at first, he did not truly understand high fashion. A self-proclaimed “nerdy little Black kid on a skateboard,” he soon came to a profound realization about fashion, “this is amazing. And although there’s mostly the perception that it’s for women, I just started to see, OK, as a man I can wear some of this. So I would wear sunglasses here, and a jacket there.”
The book is published by Princeton University Press, the same publisher that came out with Abloh-isms which featured quoted from the late Virgil Abloh. New York art collector Larry Warsh edited Pharrell-isms, which arrives just three years after Abloh-isms. An influencer of the arts, music, fashion and beyond, the book arrives just a month after Pharrell celebrated his 50th anniversary in Tokyo.
Pharrell-isms is out on May 2.
In case you missed it, MARKET has released a soccer-focused Bob Marley collaboration.
