Spending lockdown with my kids has made me realise I desperately want another child

DEAR DEIDRE: SPENDING lockdown with my kids has made me realise I desperately want another child. But my partner says no.

He actually said: “Never say never.” So I guess he means: “Not yet.”

My children are seven and five and I want another before it’s too late.

I want to get that stage over with before I go back to work permanently.

Other friends have found lockdown a nightmare but I have loved every minute.

I enjoy having time to help the kids with their schoolwork but I miss having a baby to care for.

I’m now 38, while my partner is 40.

DEIDRE SAYS: There can be no compromise. You either have a third child or you don’t. But getting pregnant without his consent would damage your relationship.

Give him space and don’t mention a baby for a while. Channel your energy into the children you have.

Consider the costs, the sleepless nights and the effects another baby will have on your own relationship and your other children.

If you are still sure it is right for you, raise the subject again – perhaps later this year, when hopefully the kids are settled in school.

Explain to him the positive reasons why another baby would complete your family.
