West Ham in transfer talks with Gabriel Barbosa – nicknamed Gabigol – with Flamengo striker keen on Premier League move

WEST HAM are reportedly in talks with Flamengo to sign their star striker Gabriel Barbosa.

The Hammers see Barbosa – who fans call Gabigol – as the man to fire them to the fourth Champions League spot this season.

He is said to be just one out of a few strikers West Ham are considering making a move for in this month's transfer window.

The Hammers could also do with some extra firepower heading into the Europa League last 16 which restarts in March.

And David Moyes' side have already begun discussions with Flamengo to bring the 25-year-old hitman to the Premier League, Sky Sports report.

Barbosa's contract with Flamengo is up in 2024 and he's currently valued at £23.4million.

However, the East London side aren't the only ones with eyes on the ex-Inter Milan star.

Sky Sports claim that three other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in Barbosa.

But the Hammers have the edge in any potential transfer dealings with Barbosa who is said to be keen on a move to the London Stadium.

Gabigol is said to be impressed with the Hammers' resurgence under Moyes and watches all of their games.

And he reckons playing in the Prem will help cement his place in Brazil's starting line-up at the winter World Cup in Qatar later this year.

He has scored a whopping 104 goals in 147 games for Flamengo since joining them in 2020 from Inter following a loan spell with the club the previous season.

Barbosa's inclusion alongside Michail Antonio – who has already scored nine goals this season – will give the Hammers a boost in their pursuit of Champions League football.

They currently sit just one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal heading into the second half of the Prem campaign.

Barbosa's arrival could also soften the blow of losing prized asset Declan Rice whose been linked with a blockbuster £100m move to the Hammers Prem rivals Manchester United.
