The iconic Will Ferrell character remains a Christmas favourite, with the heartwarming and hilarious film shown across channels every year. Fans will be delighted to see the sweet character back but this time, in Asda. The supermarket has created a special clip showing Buddy coming across a store and managing to get a job, using footage from the favourite film.
Buddy can be seen spreading Christmas cheer by “singing loud of all to hear” in the shop.
He ventures inside and quickly samples the Christmas food as he watched mince pies being created.
Chatting to a youngster, he asks what he wants for Christmas and replies he will put in a word with “the big man”.
In typical Buddy fashion, he explains to delivery drives he needs to make snow angels and go ice skating for the day.
An announcement from the store then requests him to return to the shop floor.
The elf adds his touch of Christmas magic by decorating the entire store, much to the delight of his new colleagues.
Reproducing one of the film’s most well-known lines, he tells a customer: “I just love to smile, smiling’s my favourite!”
He finds out at the end of the advert that he has been given the job and the store celebrates.
Many viewers delighted in the nostalgic and clever advert.
Commenting on the clip posted on Asda’s YouTube, Suttyful asked: “How have they done this?! It’s amazing! Couldn’t stop smiling. Smiling’s my favourite!”
Manuela Pifani added: “Love the Christmas cheer feeling and the music is perfect – well done Asda!”
Kelly Williams penned: “Wow. This is so clever. Fantasic work ASDA for putting a big smile on my face. You’ve officially kick started Christmas with this one.”
Jack Lewis-Barclay joked: “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is playing this ad loud and clear!”
“Absolutely perfect! Gave me that warm fuzzy festive feel. Well done Asda!” wrote Mandy Wilcox.
hollie loxley added: “This is fantastic… winner of the best Christmas ad 2022 hands down!!!”
laurenmadeleine7 commented: “What an ad! Just love buddy the elf, wouldn’t mind bumping into him in my local Asda!”
Elf hit cinemas back in 19 years ago, but the film remains as popular as ever.
Several companies have chosen this week to reveal their anticipated Christmas adverts, with Marks and Spencer and Boots also airing theirs for the first time.
The nation is eagerly awaiting other signature adverts, but it seems Asda’s will be hard to beat.
