THE new Channel 5 drama Dalgliesh is based on the famous mystery novels by P.D. James.

Bertie Carvel

Bertie Carvel is a 44-year-old English actor. 

He will be playing the lead role of Adam Dalgliesh in the new drama.

He is best known for Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2015), Doctor Foster (2015) and Les Misérables (2012).

 In 2019 he married actress Sally Scott. They have one child together.

Jeremy Irvine 

Jeremy Irvine is a 31-year-old English actor.

He will be playing the role of Charles Masterson.

He began his acting career after one year of drama school at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before catching Hollywood's eye starring in Steven Spielberg's 2011 epic war film War Horse. 

Jeremy has gained the reputation of being a great method actor after he lost two stone and performed his own torture scene stunts in The Railway Man (2013).

He has since starred in The Woman In Black: Angel of Death (2015), Fallen (2016), Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018). 

Richard Dillane

Richard Dillane is a 57-year-old British actor.

He will be playing the role of Dr Stephen Courtney-Briggs.

He studied Philosophy at Manchester University before going to live in Perth, Australia, for 10 years before returning back to the UK.

He has appeared in the Netflix series Young Wallander, based on the character Kurt Wallander created by novelist Henning Mankell. 

He is married to actress Jayne McKenna and they have three children.

Amanda Root

Amanda Root is a 58-year-old English stage and screen actress.

She will be playing the role of Sister Brumfitt.

She is best known for her starring role in the 1995 BBC film adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion.

She starred in British TV comedy All About Me, as Miranda, alongside Richard Lumsden in 2004.

Amanda was the voice for Sophie in The BFG.

Natasha Little

Natasha Little is a 52-year-old English actress.

She went to Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Once she graduated she was spotted performing a play at the Latchmere Pub Theatre and that is how she won the role of Jenny in London's Burning.

She has also appeared on TV in The Bill (1998), Big Women (1998),  Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair (1998), Cadfael (1998), and Murder In Mind (2003).

Her movies include The Nearly Complete And Utter History Of Everything (1999), Man And Boy (2002), and Far From The Madding Crowd (1998)

Fenella Woolgar

Fenella Woolgar is a 52-year-old English film, theatre, television and radio actress. 

She will be playing the role of Sister Mavis Gearing.

And playing a Sister is no new feat for Fenella as she is known for playing Sister Hilda in Call The Midwife.

She is also known for her roles in the films Bright Young Things (2003) and Judy (2019).

In 2006 she married Robert Harland and they have three children together.

Helen Aluko

Helen Aluko will be playing the role of Christine Dakers.

This is her first major TV role.

Helen served as an understudy for Polly Chapman, Young Hermione, Rose Granger-Weasley and Moaning Myrtle in the original West End production of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.

She stayed with the company for its year two and three cast, until she began playing the role of Rose Granger-Weasley full time.

Eliot Salt

Eliot Salt is a 27-year-old English actress, theatre maker, comedian, and writer.

She will be playing the role of Madeleine Goodale.

Eliot played Joanna in hit 2020 TV series Normal People before playing Terra in Fate: The Winx Saga.

She can also be seen on our screens in TV series Intelligence as Evelyn.

Alice Nokes 

Alice Nokes is a 22-year-old English actress.

She will be playing the role of Julia Pardoe.

She is appeared in one episode of Game Of Thronesin 2011 and has starred in The Spanish Princess (2019) and Ted Lasso (2020).

Alice played Courtney Mitchell in EastEnders in 2016.

Siobhán Cullen 

Siobhán Cullen will be playing the role of Josephine Fallon.

She is best known for Origin (2018), The Long Call (2021) and The Limehouse Golem (2016).

Born in Dublin, she studied at Trinity College where she was awarded a BA Hons degree in Drama and Theatre Studies.

Avin Shah

Avin Shah will be playing the role of Rohan Chopra.

He is best known for Everest (2015), Born of War (2014) and Land of the Blind (2006).

He also writes for the BBC Radio 4's drama series Tommies, set during WWI.

Alex Kristoffy 

Alex Kristoffy will be playing the role of Maureen Burt.

Alex has one TV credit to her name on one episode of Doctors.

In 2021, she starred in the Camden Fringe theatre show Seven.

Robin Kristoffy

Robin Kristoffy will be playing the role of Shirley Burt. alongside her sister Alex.

She is best known for Doctors (2000) and Horrible Things (2016).

She also performs theatre with her sister.

Lily Newmark 

Lily Newmark is a 27-year-old  actress and former model.

She will be playing the role of Morag Smith.

She has played Iona in the film Pin Cushion, Ruthie in the Netflix series Sex Education, Pym in the Netflix series Cursed and Eve Milton in the Sky One series Temple.

In 2020 she starred as Pym in Cursed.

Sally Scott

Sally Scott will be playing the role of Helen Rainer.

 She has been married to Bertie Carvel – who plays Dalgliesh – since January 2019.

She is best known for Trauma (2018), Coalition (2015) and Borges and I (2009).

In 2021 she is also starring in TV series The Tower.

Paul Mallon 

Derry Girls actor Paul Mallon is playing the role of Dennis Lerner.

The 38-year-old Irish actor has worked on a wide variety of projects in film, television and theatre with companies and even appeared as a delivery man in Coronation Street.

Patrick Regis 

Patrick Regis is an actor and director, with a diverse acting career from film and television to theatre.

Most recently played an integral role in the TV movie, Lawful killing: Mark Dugan.

He also featured in the film Rise of the Footsoldier, as well as hit shows Spooks, Casualty, and mini-series Black Beard.

He will be playing the role of Gordon Halliwell in the new drama series.

Mirren Mack

Mirren Mack is a 23-year-old Scottish actor.

She is best known for her role as Kaya on the BBC drama The Nest.

She will also be appearing in the 2022 Netflix series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
