Dancing On Ice star Joe Swash’s brutally honest explanation for going bankrupt

Joe Swash's life looks almost perfect – he has an adorable relationship with Stacey Solomon and now he's made it through to the final of Dancing On Ice.

The former EastEnders' star and his girlfriend welcomed their beautiful baby son last year and Joe's career has never looked better.

Joe and Stacey first met when she won I'm A Celeb in 2010, a crown that had been Joe's the year before.

But the pair drifted apart until finally reconnecting in 2016, when they started dating.

The couple moved in together in 2018 and baby Rex arrived in May last year.

It's a far cry from the dark days the presenter faced when he was declared bankrupt twice  – once in 2009 and then again in 2013.

Joe admits he feels totally to blame for his financial problems, which started when he had to take a year off work after being struck down with meningitis.

He explained: "I fell behind on tax and bills and buried my head in the sand, which was the worst thing to do. I should have faced up to it."

"The second time it happened when I was on TV and I felt embarrassed and wondered how I managed to get myself into that situation. But it can happen to anybody."

Joe admits he was spending money without thinking about the consequences – a lesson he has learned now.

He said: "I was chucking it away on stuff I didn't need. I went out every night and had a house with a mortgage.

"When you are young you just don't think it is ever going to end. I thought I was going to be on EastEnders for years and years."

Joe and Stacey have carved out a wonderful family life with his son, Harry, from a previous relationship, and Stacey's two boys, Zachary and Leighton, as well as little Rex.

The couple regularly share the adorable details of their home life on social media and in their TV appearances.

  • Dancing On Ice will be on ITV at 6pm tonight.
