Downton Abbey star admits ‘I’m ready’ as she addresses series ‘return’

Sophie McShera ‘ready’ amid Downtown return rumours

First airing back in 2010, the Golden Globe-winning show kept audiences entertained by depicting the lives of the wealthy fictional Crawley family.

The series, which was set between 1912 and 1926, also followed the lives of their household staff in the post-Edwardian era and featured an incredible cast.

From Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley, Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley and Jim Carter as Charles Carson, Downton Abbey has been heavily missed by fans.

However, there’s recently been reports that the production company behind the hit series are currently in the casting process for a possible comeback.

Appearing on Thursday’s instalment of BBC’s The One Show, actress Sophie McShera, who played Daisy Mason in Downton, addressed the speculation.

Although she was on to speak about her new BBC drama The Gallows Pole, presenter Alex Jones couldn’t help but try and get some information out of the star.

She said: “This (The Gallows Pole) is a period drama, people are talking about Downton, saying that there are rumours of another series, Sophie?”

Laughing, the 38-year-old replied: “I keep getting asked!”

Prompting for a response, Alex questioned: “What are we saying?”

Sophie commented: “I mean, I’m ready but I’ve not heard a thing apart from everyone asking me.

“So I’ve got no idea.”

Wanting to know whether or not she’d be keen to make a return should the period drama ever come back, it looked as though the actress would be willing to.

She added: “I love Downton and I love working with everyone, it’s amazing.”

An insider told MailOnline that there’s currently a plan in development with the production company which is causing a lot of excitement.

They said: “There is casting taking place, and it would be great if all of the big stars can return.
