EastEnders star Danny Dyer has spoken about how his meditation routine allows him to ‘de-stress’ after a long day.
The actor, who portrays Mick Carter in the BBC One soap, revealed that he tries to meditate every night before he goes to sleep, in order to ‘absorb all the sh*t’ that he experiences daily.
‘All you’re doing is concentrating on your breath really,’ the star said, ‘so all the other s*** and noise and stuff, that’s going on outside, doesn’t mean anything.
‘You just have to eradicate that and just concentrate back to your breath and then your brain goes a little bit and it starts telling you stories again and it starts going a hundred miles talking s***, and then you just go back to your breath.’
‘And you can count your breath, going 1, 2, 1, 2 and it sounds really irritating and I ain’t got time to do that but actually, when you get into a rhythm of that, nothing else matters.’
However, while Danny is a fan, he told daughter Dani that he hasn’t actually meditated in a number of weeks, and can tell the difference between when he does do it in comparison to when he doesn’t.
‘Well I’ve had a couple of weeks where I haven’t gone and done it for some reason,’ he said on Sorted With The Dyers podcast.
‘I can tell when I haven’t done it, so every day I gotta do it. A lot of people do it at the beginning of the day. I like to do it at the end of the day, so before I get to bed usually.
‘I can take and absorb all the s*** that comes at me all day and the stuff that you think about.
‘The stuff that you dwell on and at the end of the night you can sort of de-stress yourself and then I drop into a nice deep sleep, chuck out a few z’s and in the morning I’m ready to go.
‘Everyone’s different, everyone’s meditation is different, but you should maybe just set a little alarm every day just to remind yourself that you need to meditate because it is such a beautiful thing and I was so against it for so many years.’
