Insecure Season 4: Everything You Need to Know

After more than a year-long wait, Insecure is finally returning for a fourth season. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming installment of Issa Rae’s critically acclaimed HBO series.

The full length trailer promises a season full of drama.

The hit HBO show shared the full length trailer for its upcoming fourth season and in true Insecure fashion, the newest episodes of the Issa Rae led series are set to be a hilarious hot mess—but we wouldn’t want it any other way.

The trailer pays a visit to where all of the major characters last left off: Issa exploring her new career as a community organizer; Tiffany experiencing life as a new mother; Molly most likely sabotaging a healthy, functioning relationship before it even starts; oh, and Issa’s new friend Condola is now dating her ex-boyfriend/former love of her life, Lawrence. We warned you—messiness is on the horizon. See for yourself by watching the new trailer, below.

Season 4 debuts on April 12.

HBO announced the release date during an Insecure panel at the 2020 TCAs. Set your alarms for 10 p.m. ET, on Sunday, April 12. The premiere comes after a long wait, given the Season 3 finale aired in October 2018. The reason for the long wait? Rae was booked and busy. (She appeared in the comedy Little in 2019 and is set to star in The Photograph and The Lovebirds this year.)

“Well, Issa became a big movie star!” Casey Bloys, head of HBO’s programming, said of the showrunner in April 2019. “We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things. Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back to it fresh.”

Issa raps in the teaser trailer.

Along with the premiere date, HBO also shared a preview of the upcoming season. The footage shows Rae’s Issa Dee participating in her signature pastime: rapping to herself in the mirror. (Enter her rap alter ego, Mirror Bitch.) “It’s time to level up, ho, call me elevator / Not worried about no bullshit, not worried about no haters,” she rhymes at her reflection while trying out a few outfits—that is, until her pencil skirt rips later in the song.

The stars aren’t going anywhere.

Rae, Yvonne Orji (Molly), Jay Ellis (Lawrence), Alexander Hodge (Andrew), Natasha Rothwell (Kelli), Amanda Seales (Tiffany), and Kendrick Sampson (Nathan) are all set to reprise their roles in Season 4.

The characters will reevaluate their relationships.

HBO teased what’s to come in an official synopsis for Insecure‘s fourth season.

According to Deadline, it’s still unclear whether Issa and Lawrence are getting back together. However, we can expect to see the characters experience “the fallout that happens when turning 30,” Rae explained.
