The fifth season of Lucifer is set to drop on August 21 on Netflix and ‘Lucifans’ are already scratching their heads over the new villain, Michael. Although the evil identical twin is almost indistinguishable from his charming brother, eagle-eyed fans of the original Fox series have compiled a list of ways to tell apart the handsome pair.

Following severe delays amid the coronavirus outbreak, fans were finally treated to their first look at Lucifer season five.

As well as revealing how Lucifer finally makes it out of Hell, the new season will introduce fans to a brand new villain, Michael.

Lucifer’s twin brother will take advantage of the King of Hell’s absence and try to take over his life, including getting up close and personal with his beautiful detective partner Chloe Decker (Lauren German).

Tom Ellis steps into a dual role for the new season, making it practically impossible to tell Lucifer and Michael apart.

However, following the release of the new trailer, fans are already hard at work trying to figure out how to spot the differences between the two twins.

One perceptive viewer took to Reddit with some key clues for identifying Michael’s scenes in the trailer for season five.

First of all, they suggested the biggest clue is Michael’s hunched shoulder.

Redditor samaelluv posted: “I noticed after the second rewatch that in all the scenes we know of featuring Michael on Earth, his right shoulder seems a bit up (can’t think of a better description, like he has an contracture).”

Taking a closer look at Michael’s key moments in the new trailer reveals his shoulders are indeed at an angle.

Although Lucifer’s brother may try to hide his injury with some bulky jackets, once fans spotted Michael’s physical deformity to became impossible not to notice.

The fan continued: “It may mean that Michael has an injury since they fought each other in The Fall?”

The events of Lucifer take place after the titular devil’s war against Heaven, in which he tried to rally his forces and overthrow God.

Obviously, his attempts at revolt were unsuccessful, and Lucifer ended up falling to Earth.

While Lucifer managed to escape relatively unscathed, if Michael was present during the war he may have suffered some nastier injuries he still hasn’t recovered from.

They added: “Someone pointed it out, Michael has a slight different accent as opposed to Lucifer having the charming sweet Brit accent.”

Several ‘Lucifans’ have already noticed Tom Ellis drops his natural British accent when performing as Michael’s ‘true self’, which could become a vital factor in season five.

Finally, the fan joked: “Do we honestly think that the Devil that wears Prada would wear a turtleneck? We haven’t seen anything like it in four seasons.”

The devilish LA playboy more often than not opts for a dashing three piece suit and normally wouldn’t be caught dead in a turtleneck jumper.

Michael’s penchant for chunky knitwear could eventually prove to be his downfall if Chloe, Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Amenadiel (DB Woodside) notice his questionable fashion choices.
