Naked shoots, rape rap scandal and tragic death – Where Hollyoaks cast are now

Hollyoaks marks its 25th anniversary this year and over the quarter of a century plenty of iconic characters have arrived and fled the fictional village.

The Channel 4 soap have been known to focus on the issues of a younger generation and features a youthful cast full of hunks and bombshells.

Some of the Channel 4 soap's alumni have made it in Hollywood, while some have left acting behind altogether.

Some remain on our screens on the cover of glossy magazines while others have become yoga teachers.

Daily Star Online has taken a look back at some of Chester's best loved characters and found out what they've been up to since leaving the show.

Gemma Merna (Carmel Valentine/McQueen)

Gemma Merna is perhaps one of the best loved Hollyoaks stars of all time for her portrayal of Carmel Valentine.

The actress, who joined the soap in 2006, won a host of awards during her time on the Channel 4 soap and her death scene was one of the soap's most dramatic stunts to date.

Carmel was killed off in an explosive train accident in November 2014 with cast members and TV critics praising Merna's performance and final scenes.

In 2009, Gemma revealed that having breast enlargement surgery at the age of 21 was one of the best things she ever did and that it gave her so much confidence.

Model Gemma, now 36, has since put her acting days behind her and is training as a yoga teacher.

She has also appeared on celebrity versions of The Chase, Pointless and Virtually Famous.

Jorgie Porter (Theresa McQueen)

Blonde bombshell Jorgie Porter shot to fame as Theresa McQueen in Hollyoaks in 2008 and she played the school girl for eight years until 2016.

The actress appeared on the cover of Sugar magazine in 2010 and was ranked 50th in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World the following year.

In 2014, Jorgie released her own calendar for 2015, showing some of her modelling shots and photographs.

Jorgie went on to appear in I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! reaching fifth place in 2015 and she released another calendar in 2016.

In 2016, she was cast as Miss Croft in the reboot of Are You Being Served? and she also became the new face of the UK advertising campaign for skincare brand Proactive.

Jorgie, now 32, appeared as a contestant on E4 reality show Celebs Go Dating in 2017 in a bid to find a boyfriend.

Kristian Ealey (Matt Musgrove)

Kristian Ealey played janitor Matt Musgrove in the Channel 4 soap from 2000 to 2004, having played the same character in Brookside two years previously from 1998 to 2000.

Matt was known for his rocky relationship with DJ Chloe Bruce, leaving Hollyoaks permanently when she split up with him for good.

He also appeared in spin-offs Hollyoaks: Indecent Behaviour in 2001 and Hollyoaks: After Hours in 2004. The latter was to be his last appearance in the show.

Kristian then went on to perform in Liverpool-based band Tramp Attack and was cast as Ringo Starr in the film In His Life: The John Lennon Story.

The actor and musician died in his sleep at the age 38 in May 2016.

Stars of the small screen including Gemma Atkinson and Helen Noble all paid tribute to the actor during the sad time.

According to reports, the cause of Kristian's death remains unknown.

Sonny Flood (Josh Ashworth)

Wannabe rocker Josh Ashworth first stepped foot in Hollyoaks village in 2005 as the younger brother of Rhys and Hannah Ashworth.

The little brother of Rhys and Hannah Ashworth, his storyline saw him date teenage mum Amy Barnes while trying to become a musician.

Josh left the soap after he crashed a car full of his friends in 2010.

After leaving the soap, Sonny focused on his education.

The actor, now 30, earned a law degree from the University of Manchester and now works as a paralegal.

Sonny joined Deans Court Chambers in April 2019 following successful completion of pupilage under the supervision of Peter Rotary.

Nathalie Emmanuel (Sasha Valentine)

Nathalie Emmanuel began playing school girl Sasha Valentine in 2006.

Originally portrayed as sweet and wholesome, her character took a drastic turn as the weeks went by.

Sasha's biggest storylines saw her become addicted to heroin and start dealing for village bad boy Warren Fox.

Eventually the character left the soap after discovering her brother Calvin (Ricky Whittle) had left Warren to die in 2011.

Nathalie, now 31, has gone on to play Missandei in Game Of Thones and featured in Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious since leaving the Channel 4 soap.

FHM ranked Nathalie as 99th in their 100 Sexiest Women of 2013 and 75th in their Sexiest Women of 2015.

The actress will be back on our screens to star in F9 later this year.

Chris Fountain (Justin Burton)

Chris Fountain became a Hollyoaks heartthrob when he was cast as Justin in 2003.

His original storylines focused on the teenager settling into Hollyoaks High however the character took on a more adult-oriented role when he began sleeping with teacher Becca Hayton.

Justin left the village in 2009 after a rocky relationship with Hannah Ashworth (Emma Rigby).

Chris, now 32, went on to play Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street before a controversial rap featuring subjects such as rape got him the sack in 2013.

In 2016, he joined joined the cast of The Full Monty and was last seen on our screens in 2018 in ITV drama Girlfriends in a supporting role.

Hollie-Jay Bowes (Michaela McQueen)

Michaela McQueen first stepped foot in Chester in 2006 when it was announced Hollie-Jay Bowes was joining the soap.

The mischievous teenager was usually up to no good and often brought trouble to her to her family's front door.

Hollie-Jay was axed from the soap in 2010 before making a brief return in 2011.

Daily Mail reports that the actress was sacked from Hollyoaks after a furious argument with show bosses.

Since leaving the show for good in 2012, Holly has continued to make a name for herself in the world of showbiz and narrates the documentary series Supersize Me.

The actress went on to record a song with Hollyoaks music show winner Redtrack, and performed the song Pretty Boy with the band at Leeds Festival in August 2010.

Hollie-Jay, now 31, appeared in Sky One's After hours in 2015.
