Power Book 2 fans slam ‘gratuitous’ romps as new sex addict character rekindles ‘toxic’ relationship with ex

POWER Book 2 fans have slammed the ‘gratuitous’ romps as a new sex addict character rekindles her ‘toxic’ relationship with her ex.

The spin-off series sees Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) head to University after his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) took the blame for killing his father Ghost at the end of the original series.

While it was actually Tariq who pulled the trigger, he is trying to start his life over at university, which has allowed the spin-off to introduce a host of new characters.

One of these is his professor Caridad ‘Carrie’ Milgram’s (Melanie Liburd), who has a complex relationship with her ex-fiancé Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus).

The couple split after their relationship turned toxic but were brought back together years later when they both got teaching jobs at the same university.

Carrie is battling a sex addiction and in the latest episode, Jabari took advantage of the situation in a steamy-yet-manipulative sex scene.

Describing the new character's dynamic as they discussed the show on Reddit, one viewer wrote: "Apparently she’s got some sort of addiction to love/sex and the guy professor knows it and takes advantage of it.

“He knows that she’s easily swayed by words and doesn’t take much for her to go all-in. Then he flips the script and leaves her an emotional wreck. Dude is the definition of toxic.”

However the romps proved too much for some viewers, with one writing on Reddit: "What is the end goal with the two professors? Really feeling like they are wasting screen time."

Another added: "Horrible writing and acting as usual from Power. It’s pretty much a series staple at this point.

"Along with over-gratuitous sex scenes. Hilarious.”

A third wrote: "I agree completely. They don’t really have a purpose to the overall story.”
