RIVERDALE had a relatively unknown cast when it started and now it's photogenic stars are household names.

As fans in the UK eagerly await the start of the season four, we take a look at which characters will be returning for even more drama.

The cast of Riverdale includes:

KJ Apa as Archie Andrews

New Zealand actor Keneti James Apa has been playing Archie since the show began in 2017.

He has starred in films such as A Dog's Purpose, The Hate You Give and Netflix's The Last Summer.

His role on Riverdale has seen him land nomination nods at the Teen Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones

Former Disney Channel star Cole completely reinvented himself after landing the role of Jughead.

After finding fame with his twin brother Zack as Ben on Friends and on their iconic shows The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life of Deck.

Thanks to the popularity of his part as Jughead, the star has won the Teen Choice Awards Choice Drama TV Actor for three years in a row between 2017 and 2019.

Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge

Camila is another original cast member who has seen her star rise since the start of the show.

Roles she's landed since making her debut include 2018's The New Romantic and Netflix rom-com The Perfect Date.

While she made appearance in Maggie Rogers' Give A Little music video, as well as The Chainsmokers' video for their track, Side Effects.

Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper

Lili has been playing Betty since the show debuted on Netflix but her career started back in  2011.

The actress has starred in films such as The Good  Neighbour, Hustlers and Charlie's Angels.

The fan-favourite has walked away with Choice Drama TV Actress for three years in a row at the  Teen Choice Awards between 2017 and 2019.

Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom

Actress and YouTube personality Madelaine spent her childhood dividing her time between  Washington and South Africa.

Since finding fame on Riverdale, she's gone on to star in films like F the Prom, Polaroif and Sightless.

The actress recently admitted that she wishes the show would stop pitting the female characters against each other.

Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge

American actor Mark is best known for his portrayal as Mateo Santos on ABC soap All My Children.

And he was a pleasant addition to the Riverdale cast when he was revealed to be Veronica's father, Hiram Lodge.

Mark famously met his wife Kelly Ripa on the set of All My Children and the pair eloped in May 1996.

Marisol Nichols as Hermonie Lodge

The American actress is best known for her roles as Nadia Yassir on the Fox series 24.

During her career – which started in 1997 – the actress has had film roles in Scream 2, Homeland Security, Big Momma's House and Cucuy: The Boogeyman.

While she's had parts in TV shows such as Resurrection Blvd, Cold Case, Blind Justice and Teen Wolf before she joining the cast of Riverdale.

Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper

Actress Mädchen has been part of the Riverdale cast since the show began in 2017.

But she is most famous for her roles on Twin Peaks, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Twin Peaks: The Return as well as Witches of East End.

However she has found fame with a younger crowd thanks to her part of Betty Cooper's mum.

Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz

Canadian actress Vanessa first found fame for roles in shows such as Finding Cater, The Latest Buzz and My Babysitter's a Vampire.

She joined Riverdale in season two and got promoted to a main role by the next season.

The actress was awarded bother Choice Breakout TV Star and Choice Scene Stealer at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards.

When is the fourth series of Riverdale on Netflix?

The fourth season of Riverdale is currently airing on the US version of the streaming platform.

However British fans won't be able to enjoy the new series until the season ends in the US in May 2020.

In January, 2019, it was first announced by Riverdale's showbosses that there will certainly be a fourth series to the ever-so-popular Netflix show.

It goes without saying that Riverdale is one of the biggest teen drama programmes, having amassed a global fanbase throughout its three-year run.
