Strictlys Maisie Smith unrecognisable in forgotten first Hollywood film role

Strictly Come Dancing's Maisie Smith is known for looking extremely glamorous these days – but in 2008, she looked unrecognisable in a Hollywood movie role.

The 21-year-old actress shot to national fame as Tiffany Butcher in BBC One's hit soap opera EastEnders, with the starlet making a name for herself across industries thereafter.

She has since appeared on Strictly, departed from EastEnders, got pushed to the limits on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and shown off her impeccable talents in the Strictly Ballroom: The Musical.

But although many of us know Maisie from shooting to fame as Tiffany in the BBC One soap, this actually wasn't her first acting role.

The Essex-born flame-haired beauty was just six years of age when she first popped up in EastEnders as Bianca Jackson's daughter.

But Maisie was even younger when she began her esteemed career.

At just four years of age, Maisie starred alongside Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Andrew Garfield, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne.

When she was a tiny tot she starred alongside those renowned actors and actresses in 2008 Hollywood movie entitled The Other Boleyn Girl.

The romance/drama film is a fictionalised account of the lives of 16th-century aristocrats Mary Boleyn, one-time mistress of King Henry VIII, and her sister, Anne, who became the monarch's second wife.

Maisie portrayed a young Elizabeth Boleyn, also known as Queen Elizabeth I and the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.

Elizabeth I was the Queen of England and Ireland from November 1558 until her death in 1603 – she was the last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor.

In the film, Maisie can be seen running through a golden field with her orange curls bouncing around while cascading over her shoulders.

Fans of Maisie have taken to Twitter when noticing the star in her forgotten and little-known film role.

In 2020 one fan penned: "@maisie_smith_ is that you I see at the very end of the film the other Boleyn girl? Looking super cute in the fields?"

And in 2018 someone else said: "Every time I see @maisie_smith_ on EastEnders I just think of her as Elizabeth I in the Other Boleyn Girl."

Maisie's role as a very young Elizabeth I in The Other Boleyn Girl clearly set her up for good stead, because at 21 her career is blossoming more and more with each day that passes.

As well as starring in EastEnders on and off throughout her childhood and teenage years before bowing out earlier this year (2022), Maisie also launched a pop career in 2016.

In 2016 she released her debut single Good Thing, which had an accompanying music video.

Her second track came out months later in 2017 and was called Where My Heart Is.

Writing her own songs about herself, Maisie "wanted to write a song that inspired others".

As well as all of the above, Maisie is well-known for competing in Strictly Come Dancing with ballroom pro Gorka Márquez.

The pair finished second place alongside Hrvy and Janette Manrara, and Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, after losing out to champions Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse.

After her success on Strictly, she made her musical theatre debut in Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, playing Fran – which was announced earlier this year and led to a slew of shows up and down the country.

Maisie is still starring in the musical stage show as it tours the country.
