The Bay fans gobsmacked as Stephen’s murderer was having affair with his wife

The Bay series two came to a dramatic end on ITV on Wednesday night with plenty of twists and turns.

Viewers were left gobsmacked as it came to light that Stephen Marshbrook's wife Rose (Sharon Small) had been having an affair with scarp yard boss Frank Mercer (Owen McDonnell).

Mercer was later charged with conspiracy to murder after it was revealed that he paid Russian criminal Viktor Zima to shoot Stephen.

He was spotted on CCTV going to a cash point to withdraw money before handing Zima a wad of cash.

Zima previously confessed to the police that he shot Stephen and that Mercer was the man who hired him to carry out the brutal murder.

He explained that he wanted to run away and start a new life with Rose.

After admitting stealing money from her husband's business and being arrested for theft, Rose cracked under pressure when being question by Detective Sargent Lisa Armstrong (Movern Christie).

She admitted to having an affair with Mercer and went on to share that the pair were childhood friends from school.

Lisa explained that they'd got talking again before things went further and they began a romantic relationship behind her husband's back.

Rose told Lisa: "I didn't mean for anything to happen."

Viewers rushed to their keyboards as Rose and Frank's shock affair was exposed as the reason behind Stephen's murder.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "I always knew Rose had something to do with it!"

A second person posted: "wow, not what I was expecting."

While a third person said: "OMG! What a twist."

Another added: "Well I never suspected that."

The series gave fans plenty of dramatic moments over the past six weeks including the that Stephen's son Oliver was not actually his child with his wife Roe but with another woman.
