Vernon, 46, is best known for being a television presenter on British TV but viewers will see him in a completely different realm in the coming weeks as he enters the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! camp. The ITV reality programme has relocated to Gwrych Castle in Wales, meaning the all-star line-up will be enduring Bushtucker Trials a lot closer to home. The beloved game show presenter has a very personal reason for joining this year’s cast, which will make being away from his family that much harder.

Speaking ahead of his involvement in the show, Vernon said: “I am excited about doing I’m a Celebrity. The physical and mental challenges will be really interesting.

“I am also looking forward to finding out who my campmates are and building relationships with those guys – finding out who they are and what makes them who they are.”

Detailing the reason he really signed up, the father-of-two explained: “Mainly though I am doing it for my daughters, Phoebe and Amber.

“It’s a show they watch on a regular basis and they get behind the people in the camp. I think the fact I am involved in it will make it even more fun for them!

“And now it is approaching, they are so excited. Every time I talk about it, I get a double fist pump from them and they are thrilled to be involved.”

Tess Daly’s, 51, husband was heavily rumoured to be taking part before the official line-up was officially revealed on Sunday night.

The father-of-two had previously addressed the speculation, saying: “The reason why that story came out, I think, is because I’ve been asked for the last two or three years to do I’m a Celebrity.

“I’ve always turned it down. I think my name must have still been in a notebook and it’s been floated around.

“We’ll see. Never say never. Like I say, I’ve been asked two or three times in the past and it’s not been the right time so I don’t know,” he told Radio Times.

It’s been reported the presenter will receive a £250,000 pay packet for taking part in this year’s series.

An insider had previously explained to The Mirror before the official announcement was made: “Everyone’s so pleased to have Vernon on board.

“He’s a lovely guy, full of down-to-earth northern charm and perfect for the show,” they continued.

Vernon will join the other famous faces to create a support bubble, meaning they can interact with one another despite the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Ahead of the reveal of the official line-up, Coral bookmakers were placing their odds on who could be the winner of this year’s series following the rumoured reports.

It seems former Strictly Come Dancing professional AJ Pritchard, 26, is the top favourite to take the crown.

According to the latest odds, the dancer’s chances of becoming King of the Castle currently stands at 5/2.

Former EastEnders actor Shane Richie, 56, is his closest competitor at 3/1 with presenter Vernon hot on their heels at 5/1.

Olympian Mo Farah’s chances look good as the 37-year-old sits in the fourth position at 6/1 before the series has even got underway.

Coral spokesperson John Hill said: “AJ Pritchard was very popular on the Strictly dance floor and we also expect him to go down well on I’m A Celeb, therefore, he is the early favourite to win this year’s series in Wales.

“Shane Richie is always good fun and should also be a big hit on the show, while Mo Farah is prominent in the betting to pick up gold on the new series.”

On the other end of the spectrum, journalist Victoria Derbyshire, 52, and West End star Ruthie Henshall, 53, look the most likely to leave first as their chances of winning sit at 33/1.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 starts Sunday 15 November at 9pm on ITV.
