Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce) has been known for causing mischief as he left in 2017, going on the run after assaulting a police officer. The real reason was that actor Bruno Langley was fired as he was accused of sexual assault and so the character was written out of Coronation Street. A few years later though and Todd returned to make amends with his loved ones and while it may be a different actor taking on the role, he is still at the heart of many problems.

What did Todd do in Coronation Street?

When Todd returned to the cobbles, he was upset to find Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) had moved on with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash).

They were living together with their adopted daughter Summer (Harriet Bibby) and Todd wanted what he thought was rightfully his.

In order to win them back, he played the long game, trying to show how he changed and make Paul look bad in Billy’s eyes.

It all started when Paul was volunteering at the abuse helpline and Todd signed up as well.

Todd joined so he could look like a changed man to his ex-boyfriend while also keeping an eye on his plan.

He had paid a teenager to pretend to be someone called Will who would phone up Paul, pretending to be an abused youngster getting hit by his step-dad.

Will made Paul feel terrible and that he needed to do more to help so he gave him his personal number and met with him which is against protocol.

Billy found out and that’s when Paul told Will he wasn’t allowed to call him on his mobile again but things got worse.

Todd thought it would be good to ramp up the pressure and told Will to break into Billy and Paul’s flat and destroy some of their belongings.

This was so Paul could be blamed as it would have been his fault for getting personally involved with Will in the first place.

However, it went wrong when Summer walked in on Will wrecking the place and she ran away, getting hit by a car in the process.

Todd was distraught when he realised she was hurt but it did help his plan in the long run as Billy and Paul did end up breaking up.

His devious deeds weren’t quite over yet, not even when Todd did get back with Billy.

Will blackmailed him, asking for £5,000 to keep his mouth shut and to get his hands on the cash, Todd thought the best thing to do was to steal the heat pump from the builders’ yard that was going to be installed at the halfway house.

Billy took his boss George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) funeral van to steal it and sold the heap pump for a hefty sum, giving Will the majority of the money but holding £1,000 back for himself.

Will and Paul may have exposed Todd for who he really is but he is adamant that he’s going to be a new man.

Todd has to do community service as part of his punishment for stealing the heat pump so will be working at a soup kitchen.

Unfortunately for Billy, it is the place where he volunteers and he is furious to see his ex-fiancé there.

Todd pleads with him, saying that he’ll go to prison if he doesn’t work there as he was told so Billy reluctantly agrees and swaps his shifts in order to be nowhere near him.

Will Billy ever be able to forgive Todd or is this the end of them for good?

Coronation Street is available to watch on ITV.
