Who is Will's enemy DI Malone in Emmerdale and who plays him?

DI Malone is a police officer with a dark past and this latest villain to arrive in Emmerdale has proved to be a true match for resident bad guy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

Cain, who has found himself targeted by Malone, isn’t the only one in trouble with the ominous copper, as Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) wasn’t too happy to see the Detective Inspector turn up in the Dales either.

But who is Will’s enemy DI Malone and what do we know about him…

Who is DI Malone and who plays him?

DI Malone in Emmerdale is played by Liverpool 1 and Murphys Law star Mark Womack, who has also had roles in Silent Witness, Merseybeat and Hearts and Minds.

The 59-year-old actor is married to former EastEnders star Samantha Womack and the pair tied the knot over a decade ago in 2009.

DI Malone arrived in Emmerdale to grill the villagers about the recent shooting of Nate Robinson, but it soon became apparent that the cop was corrupt and has a real hold over ex con Will.

In tonight’s episode, DI Malone will reveal that he’sconnected to the criminal world himself – and not because he’s been arrestingthose in it. He may well prove to be one of Will’s former drug gang bosses thathe is so afraid of – and who he bought the gun that wounded Nate to protect hisfamily against.

Will is going to find himself forced back into a life ofcrime against his will by DI Malone, whose grand motive is yet to be revealed.

Talking about his new role on the show, actor Mark teased:  ‘Even though he is a policeman, he behaves inmuch the same way as the criminals he is after.

‘I think he’s been crooked for a long time. It’s as if he has used his status to pursue criminal activities. Perhaps at one time he wasn’t crooked so there has probably been something that’s happened in his past that’s changed him.’

Emmerdale continues on Thursday 5 March at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
