Bradford fire – Homes evacuated and locals told to keep windows closed as factory blaze the size of football pitch rages
HOMES have been evacuated and locals told to keep their windows closes as a huge fire rages in Bradford today.
The inferno sent massive plumes of thick smoke billowing into the air after it broke out at a furniture factory in the early hours of this morning.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire has spread to an area around the same size as a football pitch.
Fire crews first received a call about the blaze at 2.45am this morning.
A spokesperson said: "Power to the building has been isolated as part of the firefighting operations and power in the local area may also be affected.
"A number of residents from a nearby flats have been evacuated.
"Other local residents in the Shearbridge area are advised to keep doors and windows closed. The public is also asked to avoid the area if possible."
Crews from eighteen different stations are trying to douse the blaze.
Three schools in the area have been closed this morning due to the fire.
