At around 6.48pm local time, around 20 to 30 gunshots rang out at a vigil being held by a mother for her son who passed away a few weeks prior, according to ABC13.

"While they were having their celebration of life and releasing balloons in the air, an unknown suspect drove down this road and shot rounds into that group of people," said Sgt. Greg Campbell of the Harris County police department.

A witness added that people "were screaming and running to their cars."

According to Campbell, after the victims were transported to the hospital, a second incident occurred.

Upon arrival at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital in Texas, a physical fight took place among multiple people.

"When everyone got to the hospital, a large fight ensued and we had to contact other agencies to help with that large fight," said Campbell.

What did the Harris County Sheriff say about the reported shooting?

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared an advisory about the incident later on Sunday night.

The sheriff took to his Twitter account, writing: "@HCSOTexas units responded to 1403 N Market Loop.

"Preliminary info: a large crowd gathered for a celebration of life.

"A vehicle approached and someone from the vehicle began shooting into the crowd.

"At least 8 people sustained injuries; 7 are non-fatal, but one has been pronounced at a hospital."

Sheriff Gonzalez added that Homicide & Crime Scene Investigators reported to the scene of the crime.

Who are the victims of the Baytown shooting?

According to reports, "all the victims transported themselves" to the local hospital.
